7 Ways to Hack into your success

7 Ways to hack into your success

The meaning of success is your meaning, what you want it to look like, what you want to have, be and do in your life. Your success is not another's expectations or how much money or toys that you have.  Your success comes from a place of integrity, joy and value.  It is there for you to hack into, when you choose. When you choose that you want a better life, when you want to rise up from mediocrity and grab the best life can offer.

"Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything."  Napoleon Hill.

Are you ready?  Do you want to?

Once you have made the decision to grab success, to focus on what is important for you, it is time to hack into the success formula.

1.     Confidence before Perfection

Confidence will always trump perfection. When you wait for the holy grail of perfection your confidence will be drained, you will question what it was you were after. You will question your purpose and the value of what you are doing.  Perfection is an obstacle that will hold you back, you will use it to put off or to let go.

I made this Hack #1 because when you are waiting to learn more, to research more or get the right sign, the waiting takes over, you will wait in the wings and wait and ponder and still be there looking for more before you start in 3 months, 6 months, 12 months time.  You can see what this can do to your confidence.

Your confidence builds with action.  The action that is directly focused on what you want to see in your life. Your success is built on the confidence you have in yourself to keep moving in your chosen direction.

2.     Mine the Mindset

Strengthen your mindset by first finding out what beliefs are working for you and what are working against you.  Journaling is a great tool to mine your thoughts, your values and beliefs.  Keep asking yourself the WHY question.  Why do I want this so badly?  Why do I keep changing my mind on this subject? Why do I get scared?  Why do I do what I do?

We spend a lot of our thinking time in the past, stuff about what we did or didn't do, or how we screwed up. Our beliefs and assumptions can be wounded from past events and constrict what is possible and cause us to accept something less.  Don't build your identity on past pain, it is not who you are. Purge your past and look at your failures, yes it sucked and you kick yourself for it but what are the lessons or warnings, what can I learn and use now.

Remember, you are what you think.  The defeatist dwells on the problem and the fears.  The courageous successful person will search for solutions and is optimistic and resilient.

Your mindset for success, the belief in yourself and what you can accomplish is your strongest foundation.  Keep developing your skill for positive, grateful thoughts and a strong belief that your success comes first from the inside.

3.     Critical Friendship

What a great asset to have a friend who can give you another perspective.  A friend you can bounce off ideas and a friend who will listen to understand and give you the space to describe your vision and how you are going to achieve it.  This friend is your confidante, no secrets here, just honest, thoughtful feedback with no personal agenda. The friend pays attention, asks questions and finds the opportunities that you are not seeing yet.

All this you may not find in one person, to hack into your success quicker you need a friend, a coach, mentors, a group, a community who will help and encourage you.

4.     Resourcefulness before Resources

Not every day is going to be a winning day, there will be times when stuff happens.  This is when your resourcefulness will really kick in.  You are resourceful when you know there is more than one way to get to your goal. You are resourceful when you are creative in your solutions and willing to take the risk.  Are you using your time in the best way?  Are you getting the right things done?  You master your resourcefulness by being clear on what you want, by being strategic in how you go about getting what you want, by taking managed risks and to focus daily on your priorities.

The success formula does require your work, your time and your effort. Be practical in how you have thought out your vision and have mapped your goals. Be strategic with your targets and with your resources. Work out what you want to see at each signpost along the way.

5.     Seek Focus & Flow

This one, for me has been the key that has opened up my success. All my good intentions would work for a while, then I would be distracted, put things off or start again.  I can be impatient and would get frustrated when it didn't happen fast enough for me.  I was multi tasking and multi learning and when I sat back I could see I was just going from one experience to the next with little discipline.

Focus and Flow have kept me in the rhythm of success and has opened up to me, so many opportunities.

When I focus on the expectancy of what I will achieve, it looks so real to me, even though it is in the future, I can now filter only that which is important.  The benefit of being focused on your vision is that you make clear decisions suited to your purpose and a determination to make it happen.

The flow is when those decisions you started become your natural state. The natural state of how you want to live your life and what you want to see in your life.

This starts out as small actions you take on a daily basis, keep these daily actions for at least 21 days for them to become a habit.  Once they are a habit you move into a flow where your body and your mind want to do them without you consciously having to make it happen. A common example is to see success in your health, more energy, feeling fit and eating well.  You may have a goal, such as a good BMI, to run marathons, or less sick days. Your small actions you put in place, every day, turn into good habits and become your new lifestyle.

Set up your success rhythm and it will become your natural lifestyle.

6.   Purpose,  Pleasure & Pain

Finding your purpose doesn't come easily to everyone. Do you feel sometimes you are hiding and that people mustn't find you out? Are you who you want to be?  is there a more extraordinary version of you? Do you want to live life on your terms?
Give yourself the best gift of time. The time out for yourself to clarify your purpose. Look at what excites you, what you love to talk about or read about, what gets you all fired up, what comes naturally to you.   You have a unique purpose, the right fit for you.  There is no need to push it, just let it bubble to the surface.

Success is just the zing in your purpose. Success is the added benefit, the bonus points in our game of life. Your purpose has a driving force that you know what it would be like if you went ahead, the pleasure it would give you and you know the pain, if you didn't step into your purpose.

What would it look like if you stepped into your purpose?  More time with your family, better relationships, travel, energy, sleep better, enriched, abundant, positive, secure....
What would it look like if you held back? Anxious, scared, frustrated, lost, puppet, wannabe, ....

The consequences of pleasure and pain attached to our purpose amplify our motivation to succeed.

7. Clarity for Now and the Future

Once you have your vision and purpose, you are ready for the master plan.
Step into 4 or even 5 years time, what does success look like for you? The time you spent getting the detail in your vision is going to help here to turning them into your big audacious/achievable goals.  It's time to get that clarity into what you want to achieve and attention to how you are going to make it happen.
Keep it simple, keep it actionable and make it fun & exciting.

Remember your success hinges on your action.  You are making decisions for change and your commitment will bring you success.

4 Gems for Unstoppable Goals

4 gems to set up your goals for fun and profit and are unstoppable.

Do you set up your goals for the calendar year or somewhere in between?

Wait - I need to start with the obvious question  -

Do you set up your goals?

Is your goal setting fun or is it a chore?

Are your goals so close to you, that you think about them every day?

Do you have big audacious goals in the mix?

Do you get excited about what it will be like when you see your goals happen?

Ok, just some questions to get you reflecting on how you are going with your goals as it can be just the remedy for you at this time of year to see how far you have come.

When your goals are fun to make happen and you are profiting from the experience, you are  unstoppable!

Here are just 4 gems to help your goals be fun,  profitable and unstoppable.

No. 1 What were you thinking?

Has this happened to you?  It seemed like a perfectly sane moment when I wrote the goal but now it is not the right fit, I have changed a little, see things differently, gained more perspective.

The right goals for you do not require to be pulled, they push you along - you can change or tweak them. What is more important to making it happen, is that you are thinking of them and they are a part of your life.

When defining your goal remember to savour the moment, don't rush it.  It is worth your time to imagine what it will be like when you reach the goal, how you are going to get there and what that will be like.

Goals are so much more than words on paper and sticky notes, they need to come alive for you. Make it an occasion, goals are not your shopping list, they are very important to you planning your best future - give it the ceremony it deserves and have fun with putting them together.

No 2. When is the best time?

Some use the New Year as an incentive to look at what to do in the future, that can come from a sense of frustration , you know, because you have been slack in the last year.

Frustration is a motivator but I find my goals loose their impact after awhile and end up on the never never plan. When is entirely up to you, don't rely on custom to get you started.  If your goals have gone stale, it time to take another look. Make your own goal anniversary dates, and do the daily check in on what you will do and have done that is helping you reach your goal.

No. 3. How do I keep them fresh?

When you want to keep something fresh, you put it in the right environment. Yes?
Would you keep your milk on the kitchen bench? So , for your goals to stay fresh, you choose the right environment.

One way is to take stock of what you have accomplished - a pat on the back time.

What are you most proud of?
What would be your newspaper headline for what you have achieved?
What have you done differently?
What was so exciting about what you have accomplished?

Now that you are pumped, ask yourself these questions?

What was boring to you and how are you going to change it up?
Where did you get stuck and what are some different, quirky ways of making it happen?
Who helped me along the way and how did they help me?
What can I do for them?

Another way is to be creative with how you have written your goals.

Stick it notes everywhere
Funny titles for each of your goals - one of my goals has to do with healthy habits - so I called it my "Sleek, Strong, Sexy" goal.
Have fun with images, draw, copy and paste, use other mediums to really rev up the intensity of the emotions you have attached to getting your goal.  Keep the sense of adventure and fun in your goals.

No 4. Why is this important to me?

To say "I want to be healthier", or " I want to earn more money" are good thoughts, though they are missing the crucial parts of why you want to be healthier, how you are going to get healthier, when you want to see a difference and what difference you are after.  Those really defined parts that make it a goal.

It's the WHY you are setting the goal that makes it unstoppable.   Don't lose sight of the WHY, the absolute must for accomplishing the goal and this can come from a positive or negative reason.  As long as the WHY for your goal is so important to you, it will keep you motivated and unstoppable.

Set and Reset your intentions

Intentions
small, short term,
big, long term,
specific or general
Positive Intentions to improve and strengthen your life,
your relationships or your surroundings
Strengthen the resolve
Focus the mind
Stay the distance
Keep your intentions in sight, always
When the intention is set
You can see clearly

Sometimes it happens , that the times when we most need to set out our intentions, this is when we are least likely to do so. This is the Millie story. Millie had the intention to excel at her studies in a Bachelor of Business. Millie was motivated, and excited by the study and to gain her qualification. Staying on track with this intention was ok when things were going smoothly and there was not much to distract her.  After a few months into her studies, life threw Millie a few curve balls, everyday busy was getting in the way,  it was tough and many things were getting in the way of her study and the assignments were not completed on time.   The boyfriend left, she had to find other rental accommodation, every day it seemed that something would come up or other people's issues would affect her and take her away from her study.  The good intentions at the start were now turning into compromise. Millie neglected her studies and every day it moved her away from her original intention. Before the end of the first year of her studies, Millie found the stress of keeping up too much and left uni.

Millie's story can happen to any of us, we all have those great moments of inspiration, set the intention, put together the goals and then stuff gets in the way.  I could quite easily replace Millie's "Stuff" with mine and see it deflect me from my -at the time-  inspired intention. Once my intentions are compromised there is the loss of focus leading to neglect of what I want to achieve. It would have been a good time to reset those intentions.

Set the intentions and get them fixed in your mind.

3 things to do

1. Get clear on your intentions

keeps you progressing towards your aim or plan

2. Write it down, speak it out

3. Revisit, rewind, replay, refocus on your intention when you are feeling that "stuff" is causing a detour

When "stuff" gets in the way and you want to get back on track, remember that when your intentions are set:

  • You know what you want from life
  • You know what you expect from others
  • Your priorities fall into place
  • You are not tempted to detour from course
  • There is authority in your demeanour
  • You are not paralysed by the wide array of options
  • You ENJOY every moment of seeing your intentions come to reality

Finding the clues for self sabotage

For me, to write a blog about unlocking your best future has crept up on me in some ways.  I say in some ways because I knew I wanted it, but I didn't believe it of me. I wanted to write, I had some ideas, but felt I would baulk at keeping it going and trusting what may be possible. Not much sense in starting, if I couldn't keep it going. So I didn't try to start.

This was my thinking not that long ago, I had some great excuses and the results were as expected, no blog writing, no outlet for creative expression, complaining I had no voice, no worth to offer. Now, I write 2-3 blogs a week.

This is My Lesson in Self Sabotage - clues from my thoughts

Clue # 1 I didn't believe it of me

Right there in my language, I had just imposed limits on what I could do.  So I dug a little deeper as to why I would do this to myself and it was about looking for perfect.  I set up a belief that writing and blogging was for the experts.

Clue # 2 Trust

I didn't trust that I could rely on myself. How is it possible that I trust others and others trust me, yet I did not trust myself to give it a go? What a big fat lie I let myself agree to.

Clue # 3 I didn't try

This is not a good escape clause for doing something you know you want to do. In other areas of my life giving up instead of giving it a go is not an option.  Yes, this was new for me, I have tried and failed before, I am ok. Yet, until I recognised this for what it was, I just accepted these terms and conditions.

This is my Lesson in turning it around - clues from my thoughts

What changed?

Instead of focusing on what I don't want to happen, I tuned into what I want and deleted the excuses.

Clue #1  I wanted to write
Shred away the obstacles and you can see very clearly what you are looking for.

Clue # 2 Creeping up on me
It was a niggle then it gained momentum and it could only be appeased when I started. It was such a relief to start.

Clue # 3 I had ideas
The ideas needed a platform, I needed to find my creative expression. I spent more time focussing on what was possible.

At the time of this photo, the idea of coaching and helping others to unlock their best future was starting to become more than a niggle for me and I was open to new possibilities and what value I can be of service to others.  The library was a quiet place to think more about the next step.
Me in a private library in Salzburg.
