4 tips to help change and turn off the autopilot

Can you believe in a future that you cannot see or experience yet?

Did you know that in one day you have over 60 000 thoughts and over 90% of those thoughts are what you thought yesterday and the day before and the day before that.... they are in your past.  You are relying on your past thoughts, habits, emotions and experiences to build your next day, your future.  That means every day you are confirming your old thoughts, habits and emotions and you will keep doing this, even when it is not working for you, anymore.

The hardwired brain follows the same comfortable and familiar pattern and due to that repetition,  your body knows how to do it and you can shut off the thinking and go on auto.

What if you decided to create new possibilities?

The hardest part about change is not making the same choices you did yesterday.

Change is a place of uncertainty
Change process requires unlearning and relearning

It is going to be uncomfortable as it will no longer be familiar
Your body will challenge you and question these changes, make you doubtful and undecided
 AND the good news is
You are more powerful than you acknowledge

When you know your thoughts, behaviours, your actions, your personal reality are not serving you well and you want to make changes, start by checking what you are thinking and challenge the autopilot.  Look to what is anchoring you to the past. Those beliefs about needing another to feel complete, not enough money, I won't get my dream job, I have never done that before...and on and on.

Past                                          Future

To cross from the past to the future
  1. Be comfortable in the unknown, get used to it, know that when it is uncomfortable then your change is happening
  2. Create your future in the unknown, unlearn the thoughts that are anchored in the past and relearn the behaviours you want to demonstrate
  3. Mentally act how you want your future to be and teach your body. Through repetition, your body will believe that it is living the new reality
  4. Cultivate the emotional state ahead of the actual experience
Meditation and visualisation are two practices to bring order and focus to your mind and to connect your intended thoughts with the emotion.  Make it your intention to set up a "time" each day for meditation and visualisation practice.   For some, we may fall over on this habit before we can get it into our everyday routine. The chatter in our minds and the pull of the external environment causes restlessness and we give up. The body wants to get the "jobs" done, to move on to the next part of our routine.

If this is you, here are some simple ways to take you to regular meditation:

One thought

To create a new life you are objectively looking at how you think, act and feel.
There are no excuses, no blame, no external element that you can say I do this, because...

Start with building your skill of being very familiar with your unconscious state of mind.

Remember, we have many thoughts in our mind, going through unchecked and your brain is organised to reflect everything you know from the past.

Try this once every day, take just one thought or  behaviour and look at it objectively and decide if it is to be a part of your future.

Here is a scenario

Perhaps the positive..." I like when I walk into a crowded room, I am going to meet some very interesting people" Yes, I will keep that thought, I feel energised and it feels true and I see it in every part of my life.

Or, the thought that is not serving you well, "I hate when I walk into a crowded room, I am feeling very uncomfortable."

No, that is not serving me, I want to be confident with other people and make the most of this opportunity.

You are now becoming more intention aware.

Rehearse

You are continuing to build your attention skills.  At any time of the day, take one thought or one behaviour that you no longer want to be a part of your future and rehearse how you want it to play out. This is your life story, you can change the script.

You can do this when sitting down, close your eyes, reduce the external stimulus around you, play it through your mind and when you get up, you want to naturally feel different.

When you train your brain, you train your body.  Your body may not accept it at first, you may feel doubt and challenge. Repetition, whenever and wherever will help you unlearn and relearn.

Wanting more

You are meditating because meditation means to become familiar with.  You are becoming more comfortable with your intention awareness and disconnecting from the external world.  You enjoy just being mindful of your breathing.  There is less chatter and diversions coming to you in this quiet place. You are becoming stronger in your focus and you now want to go deeper, slow the brain waves down and focus on just nothing, on healing or on your future.

4 principles to promote Luck

Good Luck

You are so lucky!

"Good Luck" a very common wish you give to others.  I didn't consider luck had anything to do with what I have achieved.  I could hope and wish for it, wish it for others.  Luck is chance and required no effort from me, so says the meaning of the word, Luck.

Noah Webster's dictionary, luck is "a purposeless, unpredictable and uncontrollable force that shapes events favourably or unfavourably for an individual, group or cause".[1] Yet the author Max Gunther defines it as "events that influence one's life and are seemingly beyond one's control".[2

  1. 1.
success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through one's own actions.
"it was just luck that the first kick went in"
synonym, good fortune, good luck, success, successfulness, prosperity, advantage, advantageousness

Do you consider yourself a lucky or unlucky person?

Do you miss opportunities, in the wrong place at the wrong time, not lucky enough to land that dream job?

Richard Wiseman , the author of the "Luck Factor" conducted research with people who considered themselves Lucky or Unlucky and his findings show that luck is intentional and our thoughts and behaviours are responsible. That is, you are in control of your luck, there is no chance. So now my attitude to being lucky has changed. I am a lucky person. Webster's dictionary needs an update on the meaning of luck to reflect that luck is in your hands.

Wiseman's research identified four principles to generate good fortune and if you practise these principles then you are lucky too.

  • SKILLED at creating and noticing chance opportunities
  • LISTEN to their intuition
  • CREATE self- fulfilling prophesies through positive expectations
  • ADOPT a resilient attitude

I could wish you good luck, but you know you can claim it.

RU Available for success?

R U ready to be magnificent and see success as "this is what you do"?  It takes tenacity, it takes certainty and you are very likely to wrestle with your ego, your reputation and unhinge a lot of thinking that is not working for you.
You desire, You decide....to be magnificent, be marvellous, be the big You
Success is what it looks like when you are on your path, the path you choose and it reflects your self worth and as a wonderful benefit , it helps others to reach their best.

Success is more about what is going on inside
than
what you can strive for on the outside.
Success starts with You
and
Is highly contagious to the group.

Today: 4 focus points on building success strength

1. Priority Focus

Where would we be without procedure, policy, SOP and our good and bad habits in our lives?  They do have a place, but they are not the priority.  They are there to reduce risk, to limit the need to re-think and a consequence is to harden our resistance to change.  Focus your thinking on  your priorities. The priorities that what will make the daily shift for better in what you do, what you say and what you think.

2. Alignment

I find there is so much chatter in its many forms, inside our head and in our world, from our past, to the maps we create to view the outside and everyday we take on more. Give yourself the time to review, sort and organise this information into useful, trivia, useless. Check yourself for what you are feeling, thinking and saying and align yourself to what will work for you.

Useful
Trivia
Useless
Healthy, giving, energising thoughts and words that are adding value to your success
No immediate impact on your path. You have recognised it does not fit into useful or useless. Not something to focus on or keep.
f you are listening to putdowns like "I doubt I can do this", that is in the Useless pile and not worth keeping.

3. Certainty

"when you want to accomplish something, anything you must first expect it of yourself" Wayne Dyer
It is fundamental that you have a certainty, an unwavering belief that what you want to achieve you first must know it will work out.  There is something very electric about being around people who have such a certainty in their lives and make it happen.

4. Daydream Believer

This may seem contrary to how we have been taught. It was my number one thing for getting into trouble at school. "Lisa, stop daydreaming and get back to work!" When did daydreaming get to be so unpopular? Daydreaming  uses your imagination, clicks into your emotions and shows you what is possible. There are many pluses to daydreaming so I say daydream.  Your daydreams ignite your possibilities and propel you to make yourself available for success.

5 tips for good choices

Are you taking your choices for granted?
Your choices be it small or big are entwined with your freedom
Are your choices shaping your life?
You come to many crossroads, choice leads to consequences
What goes in to your marinade for choice?
Are the ingredients giving you your best life banquet?

I was thinking marinade is a great analogy for what goes into how to make the choices in my life.
To marinate you need the best ingredients, know your flavours and what will work together to give you the result you are after.   As I marinade I think about what herbs and spices, oils and vinegars I know and what I know of their taste that would make this meal special and delicious.  I choose from what I have tasted before or look up a recipe to try something new.   I ponder the 'what if' and imagine the finished meal.

It's a simple lesson for looking at choice, it's not meant to be so hard that you freeze and don't know what to do next and leave the choices to others to make for you.

Here is a different, fun way to look at making choices and how to marinate your choices.

1. Key Ingredients
Just like a great marinade you need the key ingredients. The choices you make are based on your wants, desires, needs.  You need to know that you have a mix of ingredients and keep this as your focus if you want the best.

2. Begin with the end in mind
How will these choices help you to make the most of what you want and what you attract into your life? Imagine what it will look like, what it will feel like and how you will act when the choice has been made.

3. Courage to make your own "marinade" it is your own unique blend
Believe in yourself, how you have done it in the past, what you have learnt and look at the possibilities of something new for you.

4. Keep practising
The more you keep making choices that have the key ingredients, know what you want and the courage to stick with it, you will be throwing out the old "I don't know", and the "I can't do this"
flavours.

5. Time
It takes time to marinade, sometimes overnight. It is best not to rush or be coerced into choices that may not bring out your best. It's ok to say "This choice needs my careful consideration and I will have an answer that will be good for me."

Bon Appétit!

PRO-crastination...is this a yes, no or maybe?

Procrastination - The more I think about it, the bigger it gets!
You know when you look at something long enough you see it everywhere.
It didn't seem like a big thing, I learnt to live with it.
Sometimes I could wear it like a badge of honour, or be in the cool procrastinator group and swap stories of how bad we are, have a good laugh and sigh "oh well". At least I am not alone in this.

Hold on, just let me check Face Book.

I confess I have this bathroom and it has been waiting for its makeover for well...two years.  To give you an idea, it looks a little like these bathrooms.  I am organised in many areas of my life, but my bathroom is a shocker...it does get clean, so don't be horrified. I just need better cupboard space.  Sometimes you get so used to what it looks like that it is no longer labelled procrastination just "normal", you live with it.  "This is how it is"; "don't sweat the small stuff", "waiting on inspiration".
The time I have spent inventing the excuses then getting it done.
I could have had new cupboards by now.

Honestly after putting procrastination at the top of my "things for the better this year" list,  I knew that I really don't like putting off what I know needs to be done.  Being a pro at procrastination was not getting me anywhere. I have pulled this pro - crass- tin - ation apart and now know what to do and what not to do. Number One is to recognise it - no excuses.

Here are a few questions...won't take up much of your time :)

Do you let your everyday tasks, even the urgent tasks take precedence over what you have said is important and need to do?
YES or NO

Do you have motivation highs after being inspired and then it fades and you just don't follow through?
YES or NO

Do you wait for the rush of deadline?
YES or NO

Are you waiting for perfect?
YES or No

Ouch, if you said YES... count yourself in the PROcrastinator group.  We all procrastinate, but when you do this over and over again and it is holding you back, then it's time to change the behaviour.

3 ways to tap into your creativity

Creativity is not a talent; it’s a way of operating” John Cleese

The artist doesn't have a monopoly on creativity. All of us are creative in what we do, what we say and how we act.
It is an essential part of you to live up to your creative potential.

Fun can get the creative energy firing. When at your work or anywhere, where is the fun in what you are doing? Do you give yourself permission to look at a situation from another angle and are curious to see if it was done a different way what would it look like?

Opportunity accepted means you are stepping into creativity. You are not quite sure where it will lead but you trust your creative potential to give you the answers. Your strength is in knowing that when you operate creatively, looking at new ways, new ideas, open minded , then the solutions will follow. You adopt that positive attitude towards change and see possibilities.

Find the Beauty in your life. If you want to see creativity in action then look to yourself, to your surroundings, to the work that you do. Creativity is in you and it surrounds you, it's just that you may not have been paying attention.

What are you trying to achieve?
What are your goals?
Do you want to get in better shape?
Do you want that promotion?
Find the beauty in what you want and what you do and you will recognise that you are creative.
