Paying Attention is a good starting point

I have found that the best lessons, the lessons that stick are the ones that I have lived as they leave a lasting impression on my psyche.
When you pay attention to those defining moments it leads us to make change happen.

The Before

For two years I was not paying attention and allowed procrastination and excuses to rule, I lead a reactionary life and then had the cheek to feel stagnant and confused, blaming others for my lack of purpose, blaming my environment for my situation.

The anxiety would increase and manifested physically. By not paying attention it cost me dearly, being stuck manifested in lower back pain and there were times I struggled to walk, pain would be in my shoulder and I couldn't lift my arm which made it difficult to do everyday things, like dress myself, drive the car, cook the meals.

By not paying attention, my immune system was weakened, more trips to the doctor, more worries, more anxiety, more struggle.

So I stopped. This was not the best life, I was overdue to pay attention.

In a quiet moment, these are the lessons that spoke to me

What do you see here? How do you relate to this seagull?
  • Don't give the power to everyone else's thoughts
  • You are only worth what you believe you deserve
  • Stop allowing your environment to predict your future

I paid attention

I knew I was to pay attention to the lessons I have lived and recognise that all the skills I have learnt and inherited are useful, that no experience  is a waste.  This lead me to change and action.

When you are in times of change……

  • Seek clarity as it provides the step to unconscious motivation
  • Know that setbacks are your steps to success - the scars you carry are a testament to your strength
  • Understand what is your purpose, your vision, your unique path you need to walk
  • It's more than OK to be vulnerable and ask for guidance
  • Act how you want to feel, who you want to be and set up habits that will serve you well

Love this moment. A unique path for everyone

Feeling stuck?  Finish these thoughts
"I am worthy and capable of success because......"
"If I fall I will take care of myself by...."

Successful people are not superhuman or require a super intellect, there is nothing mystical or lucky about success.  Just ordinary everyday people, like you and me, who have developed belief in themselves and in what they do. It appears they have superpowers more than the mere mortal can accomplish.
Why is that so?  It is because they show strong thinking and belief in their place in this world, they have focus, persistence, innate motivation, they think big on what can be achieved and know that is not done alone and surround themselves with like minded. On the flip side anxiety, indecision, procrastination, self sabotage can cause you to freeze and get stuck in thinking that is not serving you well.

Perhaps, you are stuck and seeing the effects of not having your best future?
Give yourself the time to pay attention to your thoughts, actions and habits and this will lead to the path of change.

Just 2 simple tips here for action

Act your life into a new way of thinking.

Don’t overthink – don’t think yourself into a new way of acting..act your way into a new way of thinking, if you want to be enthusiastic, you act enthusiastically. The power is in the doing.
Start with your identity how do you identify yourself – act out who you want to be.

·      Useful Habits

The mind has a memory. And it’s damn smart; it “subconsciously” recognizes patterns.
Once the patterns become a habit, it’s hard to stop. It requires extra mental strength to break the habit.
It takes at least 2 months for the actions to become a habit

“Starting from small, it becomes big.”
·      Start with thinking outside the box, repeatedly, you become extremely creative.
·      Start with getting out of your comfort zone, repeatedly, you become confident and fearless.
·      Start with telling yourself what you want to achieve in life, repeatedly, you will get there.
·      Start with just getting it started, repeatedly, anything you want to be and do, you can be and do.

When it comes to success

When it comes to success, mindset and attitude rather than any external factors are the tipping point.
Many hugely successful people are able to overcome incredible odds to become successful — and that is almost always due to their attitudes.

So what attitudes make a successful person?  Here are a few for you.

Passion. People who are successful in their field tend to have an insatiable passion for it, because it’s nearly impossible to be truly successful when you don’t have a passion for the process. They are intrinsically motivated to do their best.
"When you have a passion for something then you tend not only to be better at it, but you work harder at it too." -Vera Wang
"Great minds have purposes; others have wishes." - Washington Irving
"To love what you do and feel that it matters - how could anything be more fun? " - Katherine Graham

Self confidence Successful people often believe in themselves even when no one else does. It isn’t about self-delusion, it’s about a deep, unshakable belief that they will succeed.
"To be more successful don't change who you are. Become more of who you are"

Positive. Interestingly, successful people also tend to be positive people. They believe in their ability to succeed and see the positive even in challenging situations.
"The more you praise and celebrate your life, the more there is in life to celebrate." —Oprah Winfrey
"No-one is ready for a thing until he believes he can acquire it". -Napoleon Hill

Seek learning and improvement. Successful people never rest on the belief that they know everything possible. They put a premium on investing in themselves through education and training.
"Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." —Mahatma Gandhi

Perservere. Successful people tend to have a stubborn streak — in the best way possible. When they believe in a thing and have a passion for it, they will pursue it to the end. They don't give up.
"The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting." —Walt Disney

Tolerance for change and risk. Every successful person , especially in business, must cultivate a high tolerance for risk and embrace change. Today’s world is in continuous change, but the people who will succeed and profit from that change will take the risk to engage it.
"The biggest risk is not taking any risk... In a world that's changing really quickly, the only strategy that is guaranteed to fail is not taking risks." —Mark Zuckerberg
"You will look back in life and say, I wish I had or, I'm glad I did" -  Zig Ziglar

Vision.  Successful people aren’t easily satisfied. They’re always striving for the next milestone, the next big thing. Even when they reach what might be someone else’s definition of success, they choose to keep going, to reach beyond that finish line to create an entirely new one.

"Don't be afraid to give up the good to go for the great." —John D. Rockefeller
"You cannot take charge of the present if you are busy reliving the setbacks of the past." - Newman & Berkowitz

Awareness. Successful people are very much aware of their thoughts and their actions.  They have made the unconscious conscious and their decisions are based from a place of respect and consideration.  They see the genius in everyone they encounter.
"Trust each other again and again. When the trust level gets high enough, people transcend apparent limits, discovering new and awesome abilities for which they were previously unaware." - David Armistead
"To make a living is no longer enough. Work also has to make a life." - Peter Drucker

NeedToHaveToWantToLoveTo

What energises you to get up every morning, to do what you do and propel you through the day?
Does it come from what you need to do, what you have to do, what you want to do, what you love to do? Answer - All of the above.

Here I will use Abraham Maslow's research into human psychology and the development of the hierarchy of needs to explain. For me, the needs pyramid made sense, it was simple and it is still very relevant to what motivates us.

The Needs Pyramid was broken into 5 -

At the base, there are the basic needs, we all need - food, drink, warmth, shelter, sex, sleep... this is followed by safety needs, we all want protection, security, stability and the hierarchy moves to love and belonging to self esteem, i.e. status, reputation, responsibility and the tip of Maslow Hierarchy is self actualisation described as personal growth and fulfilment.

To me this is not linear,  not an hierarchy, that is, once you have one, you can move up the pyramid to the next one and so on. The needs mingle together and the focus of my motivation will change, dependent on if that need is being met.

The Simple becomes Interesting

This is where the simple becomes very interesting, I know if I stayed at the basic needs, just motivated to work to satisfy the needs of just being alive, the things I need to have, the food to eat, the house to live in, I know that would not keep me motivated. It would not propel me through the day.
The areas of this pyramid of Want To and Love To are what inspire us to set the WHY in our life, figure out the WHAT and the HOW to improve our status, build our relationships and see our lives grow and experience fulfilment.

Our life is full of NeedToHaveToWantToLoveTo, just make more space for the Love To.

Here are the self actualising characteristics, can you tick these off in your life on a regular basis?

maslow's self-actualizing characteristics

  • keen sense of reality - aware of real situations - objective judgement, rather than subjective
  • see problems in terms of challenges and situations requiring solutions, rather than see problems as personal complaints or excuses
  • need for privacy and comfortable being alone
  • reliant on own experiences and judgement - independent - not reliant on culture and environment to form opinions and views
  • not susceptible to social pressures - non-conformist
  • democratic, fair and non-discriminating - embracing and enjoying all cultures, races and individual styles
  • socially compassionate - possessing humanity
  • accepting others as they are and not trying to change people
  • comfortable with oneself - despite any unconventional tendencies
  • a few close intimate friends rather than many surface relationships
  • sense of humour directed at oneself or the human condition, rather than at the expense of others
  • spontaneous and natural - true to oneself, rather than being how others want
  • excited and interested in everything, even ordinary things
  • creative, inventive and original
  • seek peak experiences that leave a lasting impression

The Best of Living, Living your Best

The phrase " Unlock your best Future" came to me at the beginning of the year and at the time, I knew it was more about telling myself  - come on unlock it - stop playing the safe card. I knew that the lessons and reflections I gained would be of service to others.

For me, life was and is good, just not as balanced as I would want.  I was feeling smaller, loosing my identity, lacking the joy and I wanted it back.

It is within us all to enjoy the life we are living, to make the most of every day and to step up and believe whatever we are wanting to create, to build, to be.

If you are using words like, "should", "ought", "must", "supposed to", "if only" well this is a telltale sign that a part of you is holding back, waiting for something or someone to make it happen for you, that you can't take a step to what you are really after for fear of being wrong or standing out from the crowd.  Does this sound familiar?

Be honest, it's not the best of living or living your best. You have chained yourself to a thinking that is not serving you well and that is just a damn shame.

Time to flip that thinking.  We know that change will occur, it happens naturally and it is a part of life, we expect it. When you want to change and unlock your best future, you have the desire but it does bring on a natural anxiety - we don't know the outcome and so our safety switch goes on.

Fear and doubt of the unknown holds you back, you want to control the situation, so you hold on to the familiar routines.  Let's face it we are slow to catch on as it does takes new thinking and will power to change.

Here are  3 ways to  help with the unlocking, it will weaken the fear, doubt and anxiety.   It flips your fear of the unknown to being bold, to be marvellous and accept that you are magnificent.

1. Get moving - You would think action is the obvious but I find people freeze or procrastinate rather than do the thing. By taking small steps to want you want in your life, you don't even realise you are on the path until you look back and see how far you have come. Take just one small thing you want to do and do it today. Repeat it the next day. Repeat it the next day.....

2. Do new things, yes your brain loves novelty and even if it is the smallest of things, you are experiencing wins and you are strengthening your belief muscles. Be mindful that when you are going through the same routines every day, this weakens your ability to change and step up.  Something new can be even a another way to get to work, or a new jogging path.  Find the "new" in your everyday life.

3. Share with others your dreams, your goals, your intentions. We all have a desire to support and help each other.  Yes, there will be resistance from some, stand fast to what you want.
WHY? These forces will strengthen your resolve, give you clarity for your vision as you speak it out loud and guess what, as you share you bring others into your life to enrich and encourage you.

That old, outdated thinking of yourself will be a thing of the past.
You will know the best of living and living your best.

Lisa in Venice. One of my goals was to travel and expand my horizons
I am passionate about helping others experience their best and unlock those dreams and goals they put on hold.

Here are some powerful reasons how I can be of service as a coach and trainer and see the results of living your best.
  • See you achieve more in the next 12 months than at any other period in your life
  • Show you how to get into the rhythm of accomplishment
  • Build your Focus and build your motivation
  • Work with you to set and get your goals
What about you? What do you really love to do? What does living your best look like?

Tomorrow belongs to those who see it coming

We all know it makes sense that to go somewhere new we need a tool to show us the way, to give us a direction and a course,  a compass, a map, a sat nav.

But what about life? It just seems weird that we don't place that much importance on how we direct our lives. To set up your tomorrows with a  certainty that it will happen. A genuine certainty and expectation for your future.
Yes, I like serendipity with the promise of the unexpected and the surprise that comes with leaving some loose ends. BUT - big but here!
The greatest excitement is when I see my intentions, my goals for my future come to life.  There is a greater excitement and exhilaration here than leaving it up to chance.

Tomorrow belongs to those who see it coming.

Starting from  desires,  dreams,  intentions,  goals,  actions - A clear line of sight to your tomorrow.

If I don't set my intentions, map out my goals, then this is what it can feel like..

  • Anxious - Anxiety comes when you are not focussing on want you want, you are indecisive, reluctant to try new things, you sabotage changing your circumstances
  • Confused - very vulnerable and powerless to what comes your way and lack the energy to think clearly
  • Tight & dry - these signs come physically the muscles tighten, pain in your body, the skin tightens - the body wants you to have direction, purpose and clarity. It is telling you to see your tomorrow

If I do, then this is what it can feel like...

  • Bliss - it is an all pervading feeling through my mind and body, love is easy, joy is easy, happy is easy
  • Strong - immune system is working well
  • Open - I can be vulnerable, that's ok. I am master of my life and my time. I see opportunities, I see miracles, I see magic. I can handle challenges.
  • Live in the Now - Life is anything but dull, you capture each moment, enjoy each second.
I declare My tomorrows!
My business offers a coaching and training service with the mission to help others unlock their best future and I do that through encouragement, knowledge, advocacy, coach, set and get those goals, balance, accountability. I speak publicly on how to unlock your best future.
My intellectual and spiritual growth comes from connecting with others, sharing, asking, learning, travelling. I know there is a lesson in absolutely everything.
My tomorrows are abundant, light and contributing.
